I'm looking forward to interacting with the current CA trainees and finding out what their day-to-day work life looks like. I'm also interested in finding out what skills working in the banking space equips you with and how it sets you apart. In addition to this, I'm looking forward to meeting and interacting with my peers and building lifelong networks with them.

Pushing beyond the norm means not settling for average results. It means being able to try things that are out of my comfort zone in order to achieve outstanding results. Pushing beyond the norm for me also means being comfortable with taking the route that is not taken by many and walking confidently in that path.

If I were an ice cream flavour I would be cookies and cream . This flavour represents me because there's an edge to my softness. Apart from being the best ice cream flavour, each bite you take brings you a new adventure. Sometimes I'm full of edge and excitement which the crunchy cookies represents. And most times, I'm just the sweet underlying cream flavour that offers sweet simplicity.

Pushing beyond the norm for me means going beyond what people believe is possible and challenging expectations. I believe that growth and transformation happen beyond the norm and beyond comfort zones and I enjoy being challenged and stepping outside this comfort zone. Pushing beyond the norm means being relentless in chasing opportunities and growth and not giving up when things are challenging or uncomfortable but to continue striving to making a difference beyond the box or lines that might have been drawn for you.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
My passion for youth empowerment, education and environmental advocacy make me a young difference maker. A difference maker is someone who is positive, resilient, purpose driven and committed to growth which are characteristics I possess. I am a difference maker because I have goals and ambitions that are beyond personal achievements or accomplishments but advocating and actioning for challenges and issues bigger than me but for the benefit of my community, university and country.

If I were an ice-cream flavour, I would be cookies and cream because I love Oreos! Cookies and cream is a unique flavour, unexpectedly refreshing with some hard crunchy parts but overall loved and a favourite by many.

What are your expectations of CASE?
I am expecting to be introduced to the world of banking and experience a bit of how my auditing experience would be when I enter into a bank. I would like to get a closer look at the environment of Nedbank and I would love to learn from those around me.

I believe pushing beyond the norm is trying new things and being open to new experiences. This allows for growth and change in an individual which I believe is so important. This enables one to better themselves and to keep up to date with the constant shift in everyday life, be it work, routine or self-development.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
I believe I am a young difference maker for two main reasons. Primarily, I believe that my work in my community, through my numerous outreach efforts, allows me to give back to those who are not as fortunate as myself. By doing this, there is a ripple effect allowing those individuals to better themselves and circumstances, which will allow for a meaningful difference to be made. Secondly, I believe I am a difference maker by my very nature. My optimistic outlook and bubbly attitude allows for those around me to be more positive. With people being more happy, a person will be more productive, determined and confidence in the individual is developed.

If you were ice-cream, what flavour would you be and why?
I would be rocky road. This is because I feel like each element reflects a part of my character. The marshmallow is that I’m a compassionate person, thus sometimes seen as a little soft. I’m definitely a bit nutty with my outgoing personality. Lastly, with the base being chocolate; I personally believe that’s the best flavour of ice cream - and I’m the best :)

Chocolate. It does not look tempting in my opinion but once you go for it , definitely mouthwatering and I would say that is how I am. I look unapproachable but once you do, great conversations are definitely on the menu!

An environment where I can meet and collaborate with industry leaders from the various departments in the bank, as well as a firm introduction to the culture of Nedbank. I also hope to network and collaborate with my peers to solve technical problems, gain exposure to client communication.

Pushing beyond the norm is thinking outside the box and challenging yourself to do more than just good enough. As well as making decisions that go against the grain because you know deep down that the most common answer is not the most suitable answer, and that the most suitable answer might just be the unconventional answer.

I believe I am a young difference maker because I can motivate people to take action. The reason for this is that I successfully motivated my fellow classmates to become tutors for the 2024 academic year, at the end of the year they were grateful that I was able to motivate them to become tutors because they were able to learn from the tutoring experience and create an impact in other student’s academic lives.

Tin Roof ice cream flavour, it has many layers to it from the smooth and creamy vanilla to the sweet and dark chocolate fudge and the textured chocolate almonds give it an aroma and a crunch the makes it a very delicate and complex experience. I would want to be this ice cream flavour because it has many layers, much like myself.

Pushing beyond the norm simply means to me pushing beyond boundaries by exploring new ideas and ways of self-expressing, taking risks, trying new things, and not being limited by preconceived notions or societal expectations. It also means challenging myself to improve and push beyond my comfort zone. Most importantly, I believe pushing limits is a way to grow and evolve, both as an individual and as a creative professional.

I strive to accomplish things - be it small or big - by creating positive change in my life and in the lives of others and I'm a highly determined and resilient individual who also possesses qualities of team collaboration, courage, excellence, integrity, generosity and compassion which makes me difference maker.

If I were an ice cream flavour, I would be cookies and cream. Reason being - its delicate combination of vanilla and chunks of chocolate cookies. Cookies and cream represents a fusion of contrasting factors. similarly, I find that my character consists of various facets. On the one hand, I own a tranquil and collected demeanour, similar to the clean and smooth vanilla base. This aspect of me is thought for its capability to offer comfort and balance to those around me. However, I have a wonderful sense of journey, adventurous and excitement, much like the crunchy cookie bits that permeate the ice cream. These contrasting functions create a really perfect stability that allows me to adapt to various conditions and connect with human beings from special walks of existence.

I would love to learn the inner workings of a bank, especially not from a consumer’s point of view. I want to know more about doing my articles at a financial institution (TOPP). I want to gain an in-person experience of Nedbank’s people-driven culture. If possible, I would like to meet all the 2024 First-Year Trainees at Nedbank and just simply have a chat.

Ordinarily, I would say this means going over and above what is expected. However, expectations are all subjective. Thus, pushing beyond the norm to me means finding solutions/ exploring paths that would otherwise remain untraveled

My perspective. I am yet to find someone that thinks like I do or views the world with the same eye as myself, I appreciate the difference in thought between others and myself and it helps me build a more rationalised opinion.

If you were ice-cream, what flavour would you be and why?
Salted Caramel, it’s unexpectedly really good. When I first heard of the combination, I couldn’t fathom that one would mix salt (something very savoury) with something as sweet as caramel and yet I find it works. Salted Caramel taught me to address my own biases and to go into new experiences with an open mind. I would be salted caramel because I think I can always help people in addressing their biases.

For me it means getting out of your comfort zone. Putting it simply, I would say it's about embracing innovation, facing difficult challenges head on and taking risks in the pursuit of growth and or progress. As well as wanting to find new solutions to problems, thinking differently and not being afraid to stand out and fall along the way, and push to something more meaningful.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
Firstly, I would say my passion. I am definitely passionate about the work I do, but my passion goes above that. I would say that I want to use this passion I have to make the industry not only a better place, but a place where we can enjoy ourselves and engage in a thriving environment. I also see myself making a difference through collaboration and involvement. What I mean by this is I definitely want to work with people with different thoughts and ideas and collaborate with them in the effort to see how we can improve the industry and environment. Because I believe that change happens through a collective effort. Lastly, I would say is having a clear vision, innovation and action.
As said above, I have the vision of using my passion to better the industry and make it a more fun and collaborative environment. And to achieve this is through action and innovation.

Get more exposure about banking and get to know what a CA Trainee does on a daily basis, and I hope to meet executives of Nedbank. Application of IFRS in the world of work, how it applies and used.

This flavour has a complexity that mirrors my thoughtful, high-achieving nature, making it distinct and memorable.

What are your expectations of CASE?
I look forward to an immersive experience that will simulate what training and a long-term career would look like with Nedbank. I would like to be able to conceptualise the Nedbank Story in a way that I am able to share it, seamlessly, with other students who are working towards breaking into the industry. Given the recruitment process I have undergone- I expect nothing less than a challenge/s and I also look forward to constructive engagements with other like-minded students, young professionals and industry experts. I definitely think I’m going to walk away with a wealth of knowledge and perspective of what the sector has in store for me- especially in the realm of being an agent of change for the country.

What does pushing beyond the norm mean to you?
Pursuing difficult goals despite the fear of failure. Stephen Schwarzman (Co-founder of Blackstone) says When you pursue difficult goals, you’re bound to fall short sometimes- it’s one of the costs to ambition. Pushing beyond the norm is literally setting your bar high, with the aim of reaching and exceeding it no matter what- but the journey is never linear, it requires you to reinvent yourself through every cycle. Not a lot of people have love for their craft deep enough to endure its fluctuations- so I understand pushing beyond the norm to mean letting go of comfort and allowing growth to be the imperative.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
My ultimate power lies in my ability to inspire and empower people through my passion for leadership, business and the sustainability of Africa. I measure my successes from the impact I am able to make and I ensure longevity in the work that I do. My optimism for what lies ahead also deters the fear of being wrong/ failing- every hiccup becomes a lesson for me to reinvent myself or to teach the next person. My curiosity has led me to experiences that have groomed me to be resourceful to others. I am a leader and mentor and my pro-activeness in identifying and trying to solve problems have made me the difference maker that I am- I work hard at work worth doing.

Vanilla- because there are endless possibilities to what you can do with vanilla ice-cream you just have to be resourceful. You can add chocolate glaze and pecan nuts if you feel like a Tin Roof, or you can add some fresh berries for a refreshing taste- the point is that you’re not boxed to one flavour/ experience and there’s room to experiment

What are your expectations of CASE?
These are my expectations
1. Diving deep into the Nedbank Culture and getting to know its people on a more personal level.
2. Getting to demystify banking and really getting to understand how banks operate and the different divisions within banking
3. Networking with highly driven and passionate like-minded individuals and possibly build meaningful relationships going into the future.
4. Getting to engage with Nedbank CA Trainees and learning about their experience.
5. Possibly meeting the one and only Jason Quinn.

What does pushing beyond the norm mean to you?
To me, pushing beyond the norm means embracing challenges and stepping outside of my comfort zone to strive for growth and excellence. It’s about not settling for what’s easy or average and instead aiming for results that exceed expectations, whether by developing new skills, taking creative risks, or pushing limits. It’s also about resilience knowing there will be setbacks but choosing to learn from them and keep going. Pushing beyond the norm is all about discovering potential, both personal and shared, that we may not have seen before.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
What makes me a young difference-maker is my genuine passion for making a positive impact in the finance world. I've spent my time in university diving deep into accounting and finance, gaining hands-on experience through internships at Deloitte, McKinsey and Ninety One, where I worked on real-world projects and learned the ins and outs of the industry. Beyond the technical skills, I’ve embraced leadership roles, like being part of the Golden Key International Honour Society and serving as Treasurer for House CA. These experiences have taught me the value of teamwork, strategic thinking, and bringing others along on the journey. I’m all about pushing the limits, staying curious, and finding ways to make finance more accessible and ethical qualities I believe can create lasting, positive change.

If you were ice-cream, what flavour would you be and why?
I'd be a Dairymaid Gelata Roma Cookies Ice-Cream, it would be because I’m a blend of classic and comforting elements with a bit of complexity mixed in like the gelato base combined with unexpected cookie chunks! The Italian inspiration nods to a depth of knowledge, while the cookies bring in some fun surprises and a little crunch to keep things interesting. Plus, it’s a flavour that’s indulgent yet familiar, which is kind of how I like to be when sharing knowledge: reliable, but with a twist!

What are your expectations of CASE?
I expect to learn more about the Nedbank culture and how Chartered Accountants contribute to the banking world and also learn more from other individuals who will be partaking in CASE.

What does pushing beyond the norm mean to you?
To me pushing beyond the norm is being the best version of you and being something great even when the environment around or your circumstances are bad.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
I believe that my passion to make a positive impact in the community and to uplift others is what makes me a young difference maker.

If you were ice-cream, what flavour would you be and why?
Vanilla because it blends with every other flavour.

What are your expectations of CASE?
To see and experience as much of Nedbank, the culture and the people as possible. All this while still enjoying the program and meeting new people.

What does pushing beyond the norm mean to you?
To me, it means to always walk the extra mile in anything you do and challenging yourself to be a continuous learner. It means to always ask why and be curious in learning.

What would you say makes you a young difference maker?
I think my ability to always be positive and believe that anything is possible, no matter who you are, is what makes me a young difference maker.

If you were ice-cream, what flavour would you be and why?
I would be coffee flavoured ice-cream. I would love to give people the taste of coffee on a hot, sunny day (and I love coffee).
