Jason Quinn is the Chief Executive of Nedbank Group Limited. He was previously the Interim Group Chief Executive and Group Financial Director of Absa Group Limited. Prior to that he was a Partner at EY.

Jason’s career started directly from school with EY, where he studied part-time to become a CA (SA), earning his Bachelor of Accounting Science from Unisa and Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Natal. After completing his Advanced Diploma in Auditing at RAU, Jason qualified as a Chartered Accountant with SAICA. In 2005, Jason returned from three years with EY USA as a Senior Manager in the Financial Services practice of the San Francisco office. He was then appointed as a partner at EY South Africa in the Financial Services practice, becoming the youngest partner in the firm’s history at the time. His 15-year career with EY features many highlights across various disciplines in Johannesburg, London and San Francisco, including advising on Investec Limited’s London listing and transformation into a Plc. Jason left EY to join Absa Group Limited as Group Financial Controller in 2008 and held various senior roles before being appointed as Group Financial Director and an Executive Director of the Group in 2016. He led the Separation negotiations with Barclays, culminating in a $1 billion contribution to Absa and providing leadership oversight to the successful operational separation over a four-year period. Other highlights include the successful corporate action to create Barclays Africa Group Limited Jason is a past Chairperson of the CFO Forum of SAICA and a past National Council member of SAICA. He was named CFO of the Year in 2020, also winning in the categories of Strategic Execution and Moving into Africa. For 10 consecutive years, Jason and his Investor Relations Team were recognised as Best at Investor Relations for all listed companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, including large cap financials.

Mike Davis was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the Nedbank Group on 1 October 2020.  

Mike has been a member of the Group Executive Committee from January 2015, where he previously held the position of Group Executive: Balance Sheet Management and has over 27 years’ experience in financial services.

His exposure, skills and expertise expand across finance, risk and balance sheet management, accounting and auditing, regulatory, treasury, environment and climate, IT and cyber-resilience, human resources, and marketing and strategy.

He completed his articles with Deloitte in 1997, where he specialised in banking and risk management.

In his position as Chief Financial Officer he is a member of the Nedbank Group and Nedbank Limited boards and sits on multiple board and executive committees.

He is married to Kerry and is a father of three – Kennedy (20 years), Weston (18 years) and Dean (16 years). He enjoys most outdoor activities and sports, especially with the family.

Lastly, at the recent CFO SA Awards gala, hosted on the 13th of November, Mike received the awards for Compliance and Governance, Strategy Execution and the ultimate prize of CFO of the Year.

Alfred has been involved in financial markets since 1998, starting as an investment analyst at ABN Amro where he was rated top 5 in the Electronics sector of the JSE, before joining Nedbank Group in 2000. His first key role was establishing the group’s strategy unit where he worked on the Nedbank turnaround in 2002/3, landed the new Nedbank Group corporate strategy, drove implementation thereof and prepared the group’s business plans (until 2011, when he was appointed to head up and insource the group’s IR function).

Under Alfred’s leadership the group has received more than 40 reporting awards over the years, establishing Nedbank as a leader in corporate reporting and its communication with the investment community. The most recent achievements include rated #1 at the EY Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards (5 out of the past 6 years) & the 2023 Top 40 winner at the JSE CGISA reporting awards. Alfred and his IR team ranked top 3 in Emerging EMEA financials in the 2022 Global Institutional Investors IR survey and top 2 in both 2022 and 2023 in the Intellidex/Krutham IR survey among all companies on the JSE. The IR team also play a key role in enhancing the ESG credentials as evident in the group’s MSCI rating improving to AAA (top 5% of global banks). Alfred was announced joint-Nedbank CE award winner in 2018.

After having qualified as a Mechanical Engineer, he received his M.Com (Business Management) degree and completed leadership courses at Insead, an executive strategy development programme at Stanford University and completed the University of Cambridge Prince of Wales’ Sustainable Leadership programme. Alfred has a passion for sport, starting back in 1996 when he represented South Africa at the Atlanta Olympic games.

Qualification: Masters degree in Development Economics from the University of Johannesburg.

Liandra started her career in 2014 as an intern at Investment Solutions, gaining valuable insights into the workings of financial markets. Liandra then decided to resume her studies on a full-time basis, obtaining her Honours degree, followed by her Masters in 2016. She joined the South African Reserve Bank’s cadet programme as an Economist in 2017. Liandra soon earned a permanent position, working in SARB’s Financial Stability Department, where she was responsible for research and analysis of the household, non-financial corporate and real-estate sectors. During her stint at the SARB, she gained in-depth knowledge of the banking sector, evaluating the balance of risks faced by commercial banks and the financial markets. Liandra joined Nedbank in October 2021 as a specialised economist. She is responsible for research on the global and regional economies, international trade and the balance of payments.

Dr. Frank Magwegwe, popularly known as "Dr. Mags," is the Executive for Financial Wellness & Advisory at Nedbank and teaches at the Gordon Institute of Business Science at the University of Pretoria (GIBS). His research focuses on employee well-being, mental health, and resilience and he consults widely in these areas. Dr Mags is a certified financial planner, certified financial risk manager, and chartered alternative investment analyst. He received his PhD from Kansas State University in the United States and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Dr. Mags has worked in the financial services industry for a total of 25 years. He has served in several executive capacities, including Head of Institutional Business, CEO and COO, at different financial services firms, before joining Nedbank as the executive responsible for financial wellness.
